The Importance of Having a Support Team

Anyone who has put up a Webpage knows that this is not an easy task. Content, style, format, and photos all have to be decided on and created. A server and domain name needs to be selected. It takes time and expertise. 

A decade ago my husband, Kent, and I put up a website to promote the sale of my glass buttons and jewelry. Website products were complicated and it took us a long time to wade through the process and create the pages. Well, in all honesty, I really never understood the process. I have Kent to thank for setting up a beautiful and informative site. It served me well, but was difficult to manage. After several years the website style looked old. The updating process was cumbersome and after a while I gave up even refreshing the pages. In addition my focus in art was expanding to textiles. The old webpage did not show my new work and interests.


The best solution was to start new. The old website was dropped. Now it's as if the old site never existed. It’s gone. “Sorry, tvsglass.com does not exists or is unavailable.” I’ve lost an old friend.


The prospect of learning the new web technology was overwhelming. Turns out one of my daughters, Tobi, has assisted groups throughout the United States in setting up their association’s websites. She stepped in and created this lovely website that shows my textiles as well as my glass work. We went through the process step by step, and now I understand how to update my pages and create a blog. One of the things I noticed right away is how much easier it is to work with this website technology.

Often artist are so focused on creating their work that it is difficult to switch to the left side of the brain to promote their work. This is when it is especially important to have a support team. I would not have this website if it weren’t for Tobi and her technical, and more importantly, her emotional support. Kent is my long-time photographic/graphic artist who helps me create beautiful photographs, business cards and brochures. With Tobi and Kent’s help I’m learning more about editing photographs for the web. In addition I have  two more people on my team. My daughter, Becky, who is a talented artist and her husband, Eric, who is a computer technician. I feel comfortable calling on both of them for my artistic and technical challenges. I am truly grateful.
